Description of Technique
- Two doctors are required :
One to perform the tracheostomy
The other to secure the airway and anaesthetise
the patient (sedation and paralysis)
- The area below the cricoid cartilage is located
A local anaesthetic is injected
The cuff of the orotracheal tube is deflated and
the tube is retracted to the level of the cords
- The trachea is perforated using a wide bore needle
- Cartilage level T1-T2 or T2-T3
