Ultrafiltration
- Greater than 1.5% dextrose
- Same as 3.86% dextrose
Carbohydrate absorbed lower with Icodextrin compared to 3.86%D
No adverse effects associated with use of Icodextrin -similar morbid events in both groups (MI, CCF, pneumonia)
Use of Icodextrin leads to serum levels of Icodextrin breakdown products
- Serum maltose rose to steady state levels of 1.2 gm/dl within 2 weeks
- No corneal deposits
