The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes on HRQOL of kidney transplant patients during the first year, specially in the psychological aspect, and the variables which influence it.
A prospective study was carried out with 32 patients receiving the first renal cadaveric transplant. Patients excluded: 5 because missing of follow up. Patients included: 27.
Data collected: sociodemographic data; clinical data:HLA missmatch, cold ischemia, immnosuppressive therapy (patients received prednisone+cyclosporine and were randomized in two groups:
a) with azatioprine and
b) with mycophenolate mofetil,
incidence of acute rejection, CMV and urinary infection, hospital admissions; analitics; and QOL data: spanish version of the EQ-5D and the Psychological General Well-Being Index-PGWBi. Data collected 15 days (0) post-transplant and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.
No differences on HRQOL were found between the two therapy groups. In the total sample, statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between 3th and 6th month were found in PGWBI score. 19 patients had a slightly decrease in their hrqol scores, but at different moment: 3 pts. before 3th month, and 16 pts. between 3th and 6th month.
Variables which influence this change on QOL were: incidence of acute rejection (p<0.05) and other psychological aspects.
