New resources : Multicast BackBone ( MBONE )
Is an experimental virtual network superimposed upor Internet
using IP multicast, which main application is videoconferencing
FUTURE TRENDS
Multimedia communications go away from the circuit switched
networks ( PSTN,ISDN ) and move to packet oriented networks.
ITU-T group 16 responsable for Interactive Multimedia
Communications is working based on the H.323 familly
recomendations. This standard is now assumed by Microsoft (
Netmeeting ) and Intel in combination with the T.120 familly for
data collaboration.
Packet oriented networks allow unlimited number of virtual
connections by independent packet routing ( IP multicast )
Gateways between packet oriented H.323 world and the circuit
swithched H.320 ( and H.324 ) world will be designed. It Internet
traffic becomes too high it makes sence to automatically fall
back to circuit switched guarantied QoS networks like ISDN (
which might be far more expensive ).
Broadcasting is also possible even now a days ( Netshow of
Microsoft )
IP STIWCHING
A Lan emulator . Is an ATM standard that allow us to emulate a
LAN
Only proxies and stiwches are required. Routers and hubs are not
needed.
Use the classical IP protocol ( RCF 1577 standard )
Have two protocols :
GSMP
AFMP
Part or total reproduction not allow without permission
