Esto que tienen en su pantalla es el primer número de BioMed, Revista Electrónica de Biomedicina. Una nueva revista científica en el campo de la investigación biomédica, que viene con el propósito de complementar a las ya existentes. Es un dato para el entusiasmo, de la misma manera que la impresión del ejemplar bibliográfico 236 o 3.150, allá por los tiempos de Gütemberg, haría decir a alguien "un libro más..." Pues sí: una publicación más para incrementar la dotación del saber. También a disposición de aquellos que pensaban que con varias docenas de libros había más que suficiente para muchas generaciones.

BioMed, como todas las demás revistas científicas, esperamos que sea diferente. Entre todos, trataremos de que lo sea. Diferente, porque Biomed nace de la tradición de UniNet: la Red Universitaria de Servicios Temáticos Telemáticos para Comunidades Virtuales de Usuarios. Por tanto, se hace mediante la cooperación voluntaria y altruísta de muchas personas.

BioMed nace en la comunidad virtual de usuarios de Biomedicina, surgida a finales del año 1996, que dió origen a UniNet. Desde entonces, UniNet ha crecido con nosotros, y sobretodo, hemos adquirido mejor conocimiento del medio, incluído el de las revistas electrónicas, pues hay ya también precedentes en nuestra Red, como JOSU, en gestación; REA, recien nacida y como REMI, en plena y fecunda madurez. Por eso ahora nos atrevemos con este nuevo proyecto.

BioMed, por su carácter multilingüe, internacional, e interdisciplinario, no solo es diferente, sino que es posible que sea única. En cualquier caso, va a ser lo que todos hagamos que sea.

One more, this is impressive!

What you are just reading in your screen is the first issue of Biomed; Electronic magazine of Biomedicine. A new scientific magazine in the field of biomedical research, coming with the purpose of complementing the already existing ones. This is a moment for enthusiasm; in the same way that in Gutenberg's times the printing of the bibliographical copy 236 or 3.150, caused someone to say "one more book...", we could say yes: one more publication to increase the endowment of knowledge. Also available to those thinking that several dozens of books there is more than enough for many generations.

With BioMed, as all other scientific magazines, we expect that will be different. Among all, we will try that be it. Different, because Biomed is born in the tradition of UniNet: the University Network of Thematic Services for Virtual Communities of Users. Therefore, it is done by means of an altruistic and voluntary cooperation of many people.

BioMed has been created inside the virtual community of users of Biomedicine, which surged at the end of the year 1996 and from which UniNet emerged. Since then, UniNet has grown with us, and above all, we have acquired better knowledge of the internet environment, including that of the electronic magazines, therefore there are antecedents in our Network, as JOSU, in gestation; REA, just born and as REMI, in full and fertile maturity. Therefore now we dare with this new project.

BioMed, by its multilingual, international, and interdisciplinary character, not only is different, but is possibly also unique. In any case, it is going to be what we all do from it.
