clsk | Hello, Our next lecturer is Polkan García, from Colombia. |
---|---|
clsk | He has collaborated with UniNET in other opportunities, and this is way we're very thankfull to him. He's a system engineer and works an a local government entity and he also gives classes in university in the system faculty |
clsk | teaching with opensource. He's also a member of the researcher group Kazak. |
clsk | The tittle of his lecture is: "Modeling and Designing with GNU/Blender 3D" |
clsk | You can use the channel #qc for questions and commentaries. |
clsk | This presentation is available in http://changux.homelinux.org/presentaciones/blender/ |
clsk | Thanks to the lecturer and to all of you for being here. We hope you enjoy and learn with us. |
clsk | Polkan... |
clsk | [Polkan speaking now] |
clsk | Good night |
clsk | Before anything i want to thank this organization for giving me the opportunity of participating in this new event and naturally to all of you here. |
clsk | Firstable i want to clarify that i am not a design specialist, nor anything like that. |
clsk | I found blender by chance when one of my students suggested me his grade thesis en graphic computation. |
clsk | and even though i'm not a graphic designer i liked it alot. and today it's my hobby. |
clsk | The people that use and know blender know that it is an unique tool and through this conversation i will present you some of it qualities. |
clsk | Opinions about blender. |
clsk | "Blender is quickly being transformed from an impressive 3D creativity tool to a full-blown games and new media design application." |
clsk | - Garrick Webster, Editor Computer Arts Magazine |
clsk | To start with i want to remember you that Blender is GNU. |
clsk | And what does this mean? |
clsk | That it's covered by the General Public License (GPL) |
clsk | That respects the four liberties: |
clsk | Execute the program with any purpose. Modify to sharpen the functionality (through the source code) and redistribute copies with or without renumeration. |
clsk | Distribute modified versions for the community's benefit. |
clsk | Even though this is evident it is a great goal for the community, which i will talk a little more about in some minutes. |
clsk | Lets talk about some history |
clsk | in 1988 Ton Roosendaal co-founds the german animation studio, where he was responsible for the creation of art and the development of internal software. After some time and a large study he decides to re-make "inhouse" the toolkit. |
clsk | and this is how in 1995 this development starts. Development of an application called Blender |
clsk | To write blender Ton founds Not a Number (NaN) in 1998 |
clsk | One of the principal goals of blender from its concepture: |
clsk | Make of blender a free software for proffesionl modeling and animation of 3D |
clsk | Naturally embedded in the world of selling of products and parallel services to it. |
clsk | This is how in 1999 a formal presentation for blender is made. |
clsk | In this precise moment, NaN, had secured financial aid for 4.5 million of EUR to invest in the improvement of blender and this is how in summer of 2000 blender 2 is released |
clsk | incorporating new characteristics in its 3D game engine (commercial product). At the end of 2000, there are more than 250.000 registered users and in april of 2001 Nan releases the first commercial version: Blender publisher. However, the businesses even though to what they imagened, it wen well. |
clsk | i'm sorry |
clsk | it didn't go well |
clsk | and this is how how NaN business fails and suspends development |
clsk | so then, What will happen with Blender? |
clsk | In 2002 Ton Roosendaal start a new organization with no benefits: Blender Foundation. |
clsk | Blender Opensouirce needs to buy rights for its own for 100.000 EUR |
clsk | All this rights property of NeoGeo. So the Free Blander campaign is started |
clsk | It was possible that users, developers and others could get this money and this is where the users community gives us one of the biggest lections of survival: |
clsk | Softwares are written by people likle us. In only seven weeks after the cooperation of the whole world, the money is raised |
clsk | and this is how on sunday <Octuber 13th in 2002> Blender is released under the GNU license. |
clsk | Todays development continues in giant steps. developement continued by millions of volunteers under the leadership of its original author, Ton. |
clsk | It's multi-platform: Blender exists for a variety of operating systems |
clsk | http://www.blender3d.org/Download/ |
clsk | Easy installation |
clsk | Dependence directly from the keyboard + mouse. |
clsk | Those of you that already know other tools for 3D development affirmate that blender has an not much useful interface and intuitive. |
clsk | However, after some practice its real power is known. |
clsk | Reduced size of installer |
clsk | And here the cluality that allowed me to work with Blender: |
clsk | Easily extendable with Phyton |
clsk | i'm sorry. Python |
clsk | Blender is an application with major acceptation in Europe for being the first and only suite integrated for the creation of 3D graphics |
clsk | Which allows: |
clsk | To make modeling, animation, post-production, interactivity with 3D in real time |
clsk | creation and reproduction of 3D games |
clsk | Alright, lets see some of its architecture. |
clsk | Its structure is strictly object oriented. Its 3D organized design characteristcs in data blocks |
clsk | the relationships between belocks allows it to have a complex development enviroment and a limited use of memory resources |
clsk | Some of the principal blocks are: objects, Scene, Specific information for the render (camera, resolution of image) and the links to the objects |
clsk | world |
clsk | this block has sky, start, exposition and other enviromental variables |
clsk | Object |
clsk | Basic 3D information block |
clsk | Contains position, rotation, size and matrices of transformation. |
clsk | Mesh, Curve, Lattice, Lamp, etc. |
clsk | Mesh |
clsk | Curve |
clsk | data like text, Bezier, BSplines, Nurbs 3D surfaces |
clsk | Materials |
clsk | Visual properties like colors, reflectivity and transparency |
clsk | texture |
clsk | Uses images, and procedural formulas or plugins to define textures |
clsk | Lamp. |
clsk | Uses data that are used for light, like color and shade values |
clsk | Ipo (InterPolation Object) |
clsk | This is the main curve animation system |
clsk | It's worth to say that the Ipo blocks are used with Objects (for movement), but also with materials to animate colors. |
clsk | Blender characteristics: |
clsk | Modeling |
clsk | Gives form to individual objects that will be used later on in the scene |
clsk | Of all types of objects (Mesh, Curve, Lattice, Lamp, etc.) metaballs and vector sources |
clsk | Modeled with NURBS, modeled with Poligonal. |
clsk | Boolena functions of connections |
clsk | Python scripting to increase functionability |
clsk | Use of skeletons to create a central structure with the capacity of affecting the form and movement of the object |
clsk | Deformation of the skeleton in an automatic manner |
clsk | Support of Forward Kinematic animation and animation for Inverse Kinematic animation |
clsk | Non-linear Mixer animation. |
clsk | Syncronization of audio with the animation, reproduction, mixer and edition of it. |
clsk | Python scripting to add effects. |
clsk | Creation of games in 3D in real time. |
clsk | raphic editor with interactive behavior without programming. |
clsk | Graphic* |
clsk | Advanced logic through Python |
clsk | Complete support of OpenGL |
clsk | No necessity of compilation |
clsk | Creation of games in 3D in real time. |
clsk | Rendering |
clsk | Process at the end of generating the 2D image or animation starting from the created scene |
clsk | Fast Renderization Engine |
clsk | Previsualisation with effects of post-production, and fields and pixes box to box |
clsk | Various superficials enviroment like Lambert, Phong, Blinn, Toon. |
clsk | Export to extern renderers Renderman, Povray, Yafray, Virtualight. |
clsk | Interface |
clsk | Configurable and flexible disposition of the window for the user |
clsk | Object oriented system for easy composition of complex images. |
clsk | Anti-aliased sources. |
clsk | text editor included |
clsk | Interface |
clsk | Clean and configurable |
clsk | Files |
clsk | all the data of an scene in a unique file |
clsk | the format .blend supports gpg (gnu privacy guard) and uses of includes |
clsk | imports and exports: TGA, JPG, PNG, Iris, SGI Movie, IFF, AVI and Quicktime GIF, TIFF, PSD, MOV (Windows and Mac OS X) DXF, Inventor and VRML. |
clsk | Creation of executables stand-alone that contain the animation o part of a game |
clsk | Enviroments with action fields |
clsk | Application of architecture/industry. |
clsk | Animation Photo-realistic |
clsk | web design |
clsk | 3D graphics and animations |
clsk | E-Learning |
clsk | Redefining the experience of education thanks to 3D |
clsk | Naturally, the best reference to everything, is found in www.blender3d.org |
clsk | Many studios have used the word blender |
clsk | To make their movies. |
clsk | If not to animate then, to renderize, or just to design. |
