PHYSIONEAL FORMULATION

• Bicarbonate first used for PD by Boen, 1961
• Feriani (1985) recommend bic level of 30 mM
• Buffer level of 33 mmol/L too low to correct  acidosis in a majority of patients (compared to PD4; Cancarini, 1992-3; published 1998). Need to increase buffer level
• 38 mmol/L: supranormal bicarbonate level  Combination of 25 mmol/L bicarbonate + 15  mmol/L lactate
